What is Scholar Citizen Initiative?
By definition, The Radford University Scholar-Citizen Initiative offers students from all majors the opportunity to apply academic skills and disciplinary knowledge to challenges facing our local, national and global communities. The diversity of experiences students can immerse themselves in as Scholar-Citizens provides them with career skills - like problem-solving, adaptability and interpersonal communication — that are useful in every work environment. For me, however, Scholar-Citizen has served as a bridge to compile all of the work I have composed in my four years as a Radford Student in a self-reflective manner.
Scholar Citizen Fellowship + Me
I did not learn about the Scholar Citizen Initiative program until the Fall semester of my senior year. I never knew that it was an attainable goal for a Nursing major, but was delighted to know that it was now more than possible. As crazy as it seems, I was eager to add this to my many responsibilities and activities, and was even more excited to learn that I was eligible to apply to be a Scholar-Citizen Fellow because of my senior capstone and involvement as a mentor. Being a Scholar-Citizen Fellow goes beyond the requirements of being a SCI member; it is about serving others around me who have the same goals, with hopes of helping them come closer to achieving theirs.
