As if I am not busy enough, I am also a member of the Honors Academy. I was accepted into this prior to my freshman year and lived in the Honors dorm my freshman year. During that time, I worked really hard academically and made lasting friendships with over-achievers much like myself. I have taken several honors courses, my favorite being Dr. Christensen's introductory psychology course, and have gained a mass amount of knowledge about real-world issues and ethical dilemmas. Aside from taking the courses, honors students also have to contract upper level courses in their major AND develop this super awesome capstone that displays our honors abilities. The following is a list of my honors involvement:
Honors Courses CORE 103: Honors Oral and Written Communications CORE 201: Honors Topics in Critical Inquiry CORE 202: Honors Topics in Ethical Inquiry PSYC 121: Honors Introduction to Psychology Honors Contracts NURS 321: Pathophysiology - Atherosclerosis powerpoint and presentation NURS 352 Mental Health Nursing - Mindfulness and Meditation Group Teaching NURS 368 Pharm I - The Things They Carried Book discussion and reflection NURS 453 Leadership in Nursing - Women of the Chamber: Creating a Career You Love Luncheon, reflection, and class presentation Honors Capstone I chose to do research on the occurrence of emergence delirium in veterans who have pre-existing post-traumatic stress disorder under the guidance of Dr. Suellen Miller. After I developed a manuscript, I then designed a poster to present at the Southern Regional Honors Conference in Asheville, NC and the Honors Capstone Showcase. |
Honors Council
I have served on the Honors Student Council for three years and am currently the senior class representative. We meet weekly to discuss policies and procedures for the Honors Academy. Once we have outline new policies or procedures, we present them to the Honors Academy for implementation. Last year, we finalized the Honors Student Handbook, and we are currently working on developing a plan to allow transfer students to graduate with Honors Academy distinction. Southern Regional Honors Conference- Asheville, NC Bridgett Oliver and I presented both of our capstones in Asheville, NC. The conference allowed us to meet and chat with other honor's students from colleges in surrounding states. We were even able to support our Honor's director, Dr. Niels Christensen, as he presented on how Radford's Honors program retains students. King Award I was the recipient of the Honors King Award for the 2016-2017 school year. |
