This assignment was for my Honors Core 103 course. We were challenged to find a topic that was controversial and write a persuasive paper, while presenting the opposing side, to persuade readers towards our logic. I chose to do my paper on women in the military, particularly women in direct combat. We then presented our side to the class with a Prezi presentation.
Even today, as I reflect on this paper, I find that it is still a controversial topic for many citizens in America. This paper really challenged my beliefs, because before doing this paper, I too did not think that women belonged in combat in the military for a variety of reasons. I think that is one of the greatest skills that I have learned through Honors, Scholar Citizen, and Radford University--to be open to others' ideas and to research both sides of an argument before "taking a side" so-to-speak. This paper fits under the ethical reasoning and critical analysis learning outcomes because I analyzed contrasting viewpoints about a contemporary issue and also demonstrated a clear understanding of the social, moral, and political aspects of a contemporary issue. |
