Male Circumcision

​For this assignment, we were placed in a group and had to perform research on an ethical topic in the medical field that included evidence based practice. As a group, we chose to research male circumcision, because of the controversy that it poses. New parents to baby boys in the hospital are given the decision to circumcise their children, however, for various reasons some choose not to have this done. We wanted to perform research to find out what evidence-based practice suggested on this matter. We also wanted to research reasons why people elect to not circumcise their children and the healthcare implications that follow as a result of this choice.

This paper helped shape my prior beliefs on circumcision because prior to this, I did not fully understand why it was performed; I only knew that it was a popular practice in the United States. I did not have any bias towards choosing to have circumcision performed; however, this helped shape my view on this topic and I feel like I can provide better education to parents in the future about the risks and benefits of circumcision.

This research paper falls under the critical analysis and ethical reasoning because I demonstrated my awareness that there are multiple approaches to this controversial topic and also demonstrated my ability to explain complex issues clearly and comprehensively while providing the information necessary to demonstrate my full understanding. I was also able to demonstrate my understanding of the social and moral aspect of a local, national, and global issue.
